Lily Tomlin tickets are now available to be bought or sold online at Stubhub.com. For decades, Lily Tomlin has brought her unique brand of humor to television. Her charm and absurd humor has entertained plenty of fans during her stand-up shows, as well. With a fresh tour ongoing, you can bet plenty of fans will be rushing out to buy Lily Tomlin tickets. But one aspect of this incredibly gifted humorist’s career that has made her distinctive is her work in film. Whether collaborating with famed director Robert Altman or making a cameo appearance in other films, she’s produced some amazing acting in the past that has stood the test of time. This series examines a select group of her films. Some of them are well-known roles. Others are small, and may have been overlooked, but are worth taking a peek at. Joining Robert Altman yet again, Tomlin appeared in the critically acclaimed Short Cuts, often considered one of Altman’s finest works. The cast listing was an impressive one, even for someone who worked with ensembles like Altman: Andie MacDowell, Jack Lemmon, Julianne Moore, Fred Ward, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Lily Taylor, Robert Downey Jr., Matthew Modine, Tim Robbins, Tom Waits, Frances McDormand, Peter Gallagher, Lyle Lovett, and Huey Lewis. Like most of Altman’s work, Short Cuts has several narrative threads, some of which hardly or never touch throughout the film. Tomlin did a fantastic job portraying a quietly suffering (and suffocating) housewife in Nashville, and again takes on the role of the weary woman. In this case, though, her significant other is far more trying: She’s married to a drunken lout played beautifully by Tom Waits. There’s real love between the two of them, but also real angst, frustration and disappointment. The dynamic feels real enough that their relationship is moving. For Tomlin’s character to go on loving Waits’, even after all his indiscretions and early morning arrivals home from the neighborhood bar suggests the mystery at the heart of some relationships. Why do people go on loving a partner that seems unfixable? It’s a role that takes a real knowledge of human nature to play, and both Tomlin and Waits illuminate that nature in their roles.
