Use A TENS Machine To Treat Chronic Pain When You Need Pain Relief

Health
A TENS unit is a cost effective way to self treat physical pain at your own convenience 24/7.

A TENS unit is a small, portable and battery-powered unit about the size of a remote control. Basically wires attached to electrode pads are applied to your skin on or near the location of pain. Controls which are shown on the LCD screen of the TENS unit are adjustable so you can comfortably monitor the level of intensity and how the electrical pulse is applied. The electrical pulse can be sent as a series of pulses or a burst. You are in control at all times.

TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation and a TENS unit can be used to treat:

back pain neck pain fibromyalgia bursitis tendinitis migraine arthritis osteoarthritis sciatica labour pain treatment of cancer pain and much more…

The electrical signal sent via the reusable adhesive electrode pads stimulate the nerves under the skin around where the pads are attached. the electrical pulse sent via those pads stimulates the nerves to encourage healing. You may feel tingling sensation, it is not painful. Natural good feeling, pain relief endorphins are released to confuse the brain into thinking there is no pain, is thus the pain relief aspect.

Generally, there are no side-effects when using a TENS unit as the level of electricity is extremely low. You do need to replace the electrode pads on a regular basis to prevent wear and tear. Electrode pads are available for all models of TENS machines. There are many different manufacturers of these devices. It is important when you're looking at purchasing one for home use that you read all the reviews, both positive and negative to make an informed decision on whether or not this TENS unit is the right one for you.

The best part of using a portable TENS machine is they are instantly available for pain relief when you need pain relief 24 hours a day. They are a cost-effective device to save money on doctors appointments and you don't have to wait days to get into the see your chosen professional You don't have to wait for an expensive doctor's appointment, you don't have to wait for days to see the physio. One of the most popular units is a TENS 7000

The Electrode Pads Are As Important As The TENS Unit

While the TENS unit is important, the electrode pads are a significant part of this device. Many TENS machines offer either 2 or 4 electrode pads to treat various areas. These pads and allow you to target area which needs treatment in order to manage your level of pain. And sometimes widespread pain isn't easy to pinpoint, which is why these electrode pads are so valuable as they can treat any kind of pain.

The electrode pads are attached using a cream or a gel. Preferably, it's advisable to have one electrode pad near the area of pain and one electrode pad on top of the area of pain for the most effective pain relief outcome with the TENS unit.

Often people suffering chronic pain experience relief after just a few sessions and choose to use them on a regular ongoing basis as no one wants to suffer long-term chronic pain and the ensuing discomfort. On a personal note I have used a TENS unit during labour and found it invaluable to stop the pain of childbirth, to make it manageable!
