Lift Chairs 101: A Buying Guide

Home Improvement

If you struggle to transition from sitting down to standing up, whether it is because of sickness, joint pain, muscle problems, or anything in-between, you may find that a lift chair will enhance your daily life. A lift chair is a chair that rises to meet you as you sit down, and when it is time for you to stand up, it rises again to make the transition simple and less painful.

Lift chairs in Seattle not only rise and fall. They also can recline and be positioned in ways that can help with comfort and pain while being seated. The concept is simple, yet the impact on the daily lives of people who use them is great.

Though the general concept of all lift chairs is similar, not all of them are exactly alike. This is a good thing, as not every person's condition is the same, and each chair offers something different. Here are the traits that vary among lift chairs. These traits should be considered while shopping for a lift chair, and it is important to find the lift chair that is right for your body.

Weight Capabilities

Lift chairs come in many sizes, from small to large. The size of your chair is important not only because of comfort, but because larger chairs are more capable of accommodating heavier weight. Each motor inside the chair has a weight limit. If you purchase a chair with a limit that is below your weight, it may not function properly. Additionally, people who weigh 375 pounds or more need a chair specifically designed to hold their weight. These chairs can sometimes hold up to 600 pounds.

Height Capabilities

When it comes to size, weight is not the only thing that needs to be considered. One must also consider their height while shopping for a lift chair. You may not need a large motor for your weight, but you may still need a larger chair if you are a taller person. Likewise, if you are shorter, a large chair may not work as well for you. If you are unsure of the right size of chair, ask for the help of a professional to assess the best size for you.

General Comfort

The way that the chair feels as you sit down is just as important as how well the motor functions and how accurate the size is for your height. This is something that only you can determine. Do not buy a chair that is just "comfortable enough." If you are going the extra mile to purchase a lift chair, you are probably going to be spending a lot of time sitting in it, which is why it is important to purchase a chair that is perfectly comfortable to you. It is okay to be picky when it comes to your lift chair.

Material

The material of the chair's surface matters to some more than others. Be sure that it is made of a material that will not be damaged or wear away easily. If your chair will be used often around liquids and food, be sure that it can be easily cleaned.

Price

When it comes to lift chairs, you get what you pay for. The price is usually equal to the quality of the product. Set a budget, but do not under-invest in your lift chair. Much like buying a car, this is not a purchase where you want to be too frugal. Investing in a high-quality chair will ensure that it will always function as needed and will last for years. If you are still unsure of which lift chairs in Seattle are best for you, ask a professional retailer near you for some guidance.
