The Highlights of Mumbai in India


 
Travel & Tourism
Often included in many travel packages to India, Mumbai is among the interesting cities of the country. Mumbai is one of the largest cities in the whole world with a surface area that exceeds 344 square kilometers and a population of more than 12 million inhabitants. Located at the Western coast, Mumbai is the commercial, cultural and economical center of India.

The seven islands of which Mumbai is formed were the gathering points that were under the reign of various successive dynasties. In the middle of the 18th century, Mumbai emerged as an important trading center. Today the city is commonly included in many tours to India. This is why we will be highlighting many of the attractions of Mumbai that tourists should not miss during their to visit to India.

The Gateway of India

Located in the Western section of the city of Mumbai, the Gateway of India is usually part of a large number of the tours to India. This historical memorial was constructed to immortalize the 90,000 Indian soldiers who participated in the British Indian troops during World War I. This is considered one of the important landmarks of the city.

Chhatrapati Museum of Mumbai

Formerly named as the Museum of the Prince of Wales, the Chhatrapati museum is among the most popular highlights of the city that welcomes hundreds of tourists who travel to India.

Located near the Gateway to India, the museum was established in the beginning of the 20th century and it displays many exhibits that demonstrate the history of the city and the dream to become an independent state away from the British occupation and dominance. India has gained its independence and the museum became a highlight of the city of Mumbai that is often visited by tourists who enjoy their vacations in India.

The Haji Ali Dargah Mosque

The Haji Ali Dargah Mosque is the most popular Islamic monument of Mumbai often added to travel packages to India. The mosque is located in a small island situated at the Northern section of the city.

The mosque of Haji Ali Dargah was constructed in 1431 by one of the Indian Moslem tradesmen. The mosque hosts the mausoleum of its owner as well. It is considered one of the most wonderful examples of Indian Islamic architecture that attract several travelers to tour India.

Kamala Nehru Park

The Kamala Nehru Park is one of the most enjoyable places to visit in Mumbai and it is quite recommended for tourists who travel to India.

The park occupies a surface area of more than 370 square meters; the park was named after the wife of first prime minister of India,Jawaharlal Nehru. Famous for its shoe shaped building, the park would be a wonderful place for an afternoon picnic. A lot of tourist who travel to India are fond of the natural scenery and the special magic and ambience of the country

The hanging gardens of Mumbai

Mumbai is also featured for hosting some hanging gardens. The most famous and popular among them is the Pherozeshah Mehta Gardens. A number of tourists who spend their vacations in India would go explore this wonderful garden.

Established in 1881, the park is featured with its marvelous greenery scenes, some marvelous views of the sunset over the Arabian Sea, and the large number of wooden fences that are characterized with its animals’ shapes. Children the same as grown-ups would surly enjoy their visit to the parks of Mumbai.

The Chaupati Beach

The Chaupati Beach is famous for the blend of the relaxation and comfort mood in the morning. At night the beach is full of food cars that offer some of the most remarkable traditional Indian dishes and snacks. Sometimes there is also some music played or performed. This is among the experiences tourists who travel to India should never miss.
