Sublimation printing is a process that uses heat to bring the ink onto the fabric. A design is first printed on special paper. The ink uses are special as they turn into a gas when they are heated and then combine with the material and prints permanently on it. It is not prone to issues of fading as the ink is embedded into the material not just layered on top of it. A similar process is a tattoo, the ink sinks into the pores of the fabric rather than skin though and it takes applied pressure for the ink to cool enough to return to its solid form. ‘All over printing’ This printing method is also referred to as all over printing because you can place an image that literally goes from one side or seam to the other. It leaves a full-color image behind that is permanent, does not peel or crack or wash away. It is an effective means of printing and is quick too. It is especially popular with people looking to put in small batch orders such as jacket printing or t-shirt printing. While it is most common in the latter options you can use it on other clothing pieces and other items made from metals, woods and ceramics but it needs a special coating for the inks to take. Advantages to this method of printing One of the stand-out advantages of this method of printing is that you have so much more freedom when it comes to the designs you want. You could have the whole jacket or shirt with an image or lettering on any kind of background you want. The possibilities are far more open with this option. Other advantages to sublimation printing are that the design lasts a good long while and it is more suitable for small batch orders. Unlike with some other printing methods, there is no cracking or peeling or fading. Types of designs it is especially good for are the dramatic, bold and quirky ones as well as photos. It is also good for repeated patterns because it can fill the whole shirt. You can have multiple logos and business names repeating on it. The disadvantages The disadvantages to sublimation printing mostly comes down to the materials you can print on. It is best on garments that have a blend of polyester or are completely polyester. It is possible on other materials but it will not be permanent on those options. On the man-made fabric, it is. For a vintage appearance, you can choose a material lower in polyester. Another problem is referred to as white creasing where areas on the white garment are not reached by the design. If there is a small fold for example in the jacket printing or shirt this can happen. Anything that requires very precise placement and designs that use block colors does not suit this style of printing.
