Nowadays, there are thousands of motivational speech videos on the Internet. Usually, they have inspirational music playing in the background and there’s a man or woman making a speech with a positive attitude. And yes, they do a great job of giving people a boost of motivation. But motivation is just an emotion. And like all emotions, they’re temporary. One day, you can feel an intense motivation to do something. The next day, you’re back to your normal self and don’t feel like doing that thing anymore. Out of all the motivational videos I listened to, there have been only two that motivated, and more importantly, got me into the habit of doing certain things that I procrastinated on. The first video was a video put out by the master email copywriter, Ben Settle. He was talking about why he turns away "product junkie" customers, AKA people who constantly buy new info products for the dopamine rush but never actually implement what they learn. I ended up listening to this 16 minute video three times over, which snapped me out of my own complacency and got myself into the habit of daily emailing. The second video was put out by none other than the great business and mindset coach, David Neagle. In his video, he told the story of how he handled sales calls in the past. When he was the only team member in his business, he would make sales calls based on time zones. Meaning, he’d start making sales calls at five in the morning to people in Europe, and then work backwards through the United States until he reached Australia. Sometimes, he’d be on the phone until two in the morning. That story alone made me think and got me into the habit of being more aggressive with selling my copywriting services. So what did these two motivational videos have in common, and why were they effective towards myself? There was no inspirational music. There was no positive speech. Quite the opposite, really. Both those videos were extremely blunt (Some people might even say they were trying to shame you). So blunt that they made me question my current ways of doing things and if I can be doing more. It’s been a while since I tuned into David Neagle’s content. And the one day I decided to check in with him, I came across that one video I needed to watch. Which is why I can confidently say that he may be the greatest business and mindset coach alive today.
