Last week I had an amazing time seeing Duran Duran live in concert in Baton Rouge, I’ll sum up the experience in one word, AMAZING. It was very apparent as I watched them was even though they’ve been at this for a long time; they looked like they were having a blast. The place was pretty crowded and it was exciting to see them still fill up an arena after all these years. Getting people to like us, keeping them engaged, coming back and telling others is really what all business is about, music business, donut business, consulting business, real estate business, etc. All of our sales depend on people finding us, liking what we offer, buying from and ideally telling others who do the same. Then, like the shampoo bottle says, lather rinse REPEAT. Did you realize this line was added to the bottle by the marketing folks to sell more shampoo product? Ingenious! Anyway, as I watched the concert I took away two business lessons: 1. Give them what they want. The concert was full of songs that I grew up listening to, that everyone in the audience sang and danced along with. Duran Duran delivered exactly what we wanted, a great experience, at the same time, they did some new material and of course told us it was off their new album, incase we wanted to add it to our collection. 2. The other brilliant thing they did was encourage the crowd to tell others. While we were waiting for the opening act, there was a live twitter feed on the screen onstage with the #DuranLive tag encouraging us to tweet about our experience. The screen changed to graphics once the music started, except during one instrumental song, then the Twitter Feed was up again. Of course, it takes a huge team for Duran Duran to do what they do. Often it’s a challenge to build a team, especially on a budget. However, for more than 6 years, I’ve managed a virtual team and would love to show you how. If you’re in the New Orleans area next week, check out a class I’m teaching called “Building your Virtual Dream Team”. You can learn more by going to www.VirtualFairyGodmother.com/NOLA. In November I’ll be offering a similar, but more in depth class as a distant learning experience via the web and will send you details on how to register for that shortly.. Take a moment to think about how you’re giving customers what they want and what methods you’re using or could implement to get them to tell others.
