Australia is one of the favorite holiday destinations for backpackers from all around the globe, mainly because it has such a wide variety of choices to offer: virtually all types of weather conditions can be found across Australian territory, and natural beauty –combined with possibly some of the best tourism infrastructure and options – is probably its most important asset. Cairns, located in the northwest part of Queensland, is one of Australia’s most popular holiday destinations, due to it closeness to the Great Barrier Reefs, the biggest in the world and one of the country`s most beautiful sights. People from all over the world come to Cairns to experience the once in a lifetime opportunity to take a snorkeling tour at the Port Douglas shore and dive in the ocean to enjoy this marvelous work of nature. But there is, in fact, so much more to Cairns Queensland than adventuring into Port Doulglas’ activities. Take shopping, for instance. The city of Cairns Queensland has a wide variety of shopping centers and markets where you can unique items, from retail articles to native Australian art pieces that your loved ones will surely appreciate as a souvenir, and you won’t be able to find anywhere else in the world. One of Cairns’ most important features for backpackers - or anyone who appreciates exploring the city and nearby locations within a limited budget, for that matter – is its great and modern transportation infrastructure. The city has a great number of long distance busses that allow people to travel Brisbane and other cities in the region, at an absolutely convenient rate. As for public transportation within the city, you can head up to the CBD, where you’ll find a bus to take you anywhere in the city, from Palm Cove up north to Gordonvale in the south area. There’s also a Black and White Cabs service in case you prefer to take a more private ride to your selected location. Once you get to the CBD, you might want to start exploring some of Cairns’ nearby cities such as the Daintree Village, located only 90 minutes from the Cairns city. Daintree’s little shops have a beautiful yesteryear style, and you can catch up on your souvenir shopping while exploring the aboriginal culture (a good idea might be to visit an Aboriginal art gallery and browse around the original artifacts and artwork, or even sign up for an Aboriginal art lesson) Later on, you can try the local cuisine at the many café’s and restaurant that you will find around the area, and have a bite of the local taste, filled with exotic tropical fruits, berries and nuts. A good recommendation is to browse around the internet when looking for Cairns accommodation facilities. There are many site in the web that allow you to search for the best Cairns accommodation spot for your needs and budget, and you can take a look at other user’s comments and references before making a reservation and start planning your Cairns holiday.
