There are approximately 9 miles of trails available in the park. They are are super easy to moderate in difficulty with only limited climbing along any of them. Different trails either circle or connect one of many various lakes with the park. Trail 1 begins near the Boat Launch at Dock Lake and encircles that area, building a distance of just one.5 miles. Tail 2, that is accessible via trail 1, encircles Bowen Lake and runs a distance of a mile. Trail 3 is .5 mi. long and only connects the campground area towards beach area on Sand Lake. Trail 4 runs 1 mile from Norman Lake nearby the Youth Group Tent Camp up to Trail 5 and 7 near Sand Lake. Trail 5 runs 1.3 miles around Sand Lake and Trail 6 at 2.5 miles, runs with the Cabin area throughout the eastern end of your park and save toward Dock lake and Trail 1. Trail 7 runs 1.8 miles, starting at Bowen Lake on Trail 2, looping around near Weber Lake after which it Sand Lake, before hikers back to the Bowen Lake area. Trail 8 can be a short .5 mi. walk around Finster Lake nearby the Nature Center. (You will see the center pictured above.) Throughout the summer seasonn, visitors can swim down the small beach around the south eastern tip of Sand Lake. The beach is open from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend generally. In addition there are rowboat, canoe, kayak, and paddle boat rentals obtainable in this area. A small Fishing Pier is accessible about the opposite side of Sand Lake. (Perhaps the beach is pictured here.) Eight from the small lakes at Chain O' Lakes State Park are interconnected by channels. Miller Lake with the west end of the park, River Lake, Mud Lake, Weber Lake, Sand Lake (the largest), Bowen Lake, Dock Lake, last but not least Long Lake at the western end in the park. There isn't any charge to file for boats for the park. Only electric motors are allowed. Bass, bluegill and also other small gamefish are often based in the lakes here. Ice fishing is surely an activity that is enjoyed throughout the winter season. There isn't a inn at Chain O' Lakes but there are cabins along with a campground. Cabins happen to be near to the southern tip of Long Lake (pictured here and below) along with the main campground just east of there. In addition there are no restaurants when it reaches this park, you will find a general store within the campround and diverse picnic shelters and picnic places that an evening meal is often enjoyed on this peaceful setting. For those who don't bring his or her picnic, nearby Albion supplies a variety of restaurants. Chain O' Lakes is a quiet park generally, with light to moderate use so it's suitable for fishing and for those seeking a quiet, relaxed time away. It does not have steep cliffs, gorges, cascading waterfalls as well as other dramatic scenes yet it is stuffed with small wildlife like squirrels, birds, chipmunk, and deer, and it has an exceptionally gently rolling landscape covered with hardwoods, other deciduous trees, stands of pine, and wildflowers. It's also this short drive, perhaps sixty minutes far from Shipshewana where an Amish community provides shopping, dining, arts, theater, the largest flea market in the neighborhood, plus much more.
