A 40mph cross-wind on the Archerfield Links practice ground was hardly the most appropriate proving ground to try the new 712 series Titleist AP1 irons but first impressions were favourable.
In looks, I liked the confidence-inspiring top line and the profile of the clubhead at address. Compared to some clubs in the 'forgiving' category it was more elegant yet more sympathetic to the needs of the 12-handicapper. While the heads of the new Titleist AP1 712 Irons are the same size as their predecessors, their most significant new feature is a progressive blade length.
“The long Titleist 712 AP1 Irons are about the same size,” said Chris McGinley, Titleist’s vice president of golf club marketing. “But as you go through the set, we brought the blade size down. That lets us make the long Titleist 712 AP1 Irons more forgiving and the short irons more traditional.”
Titleist 712 AP1 Irons are advanced performance, multi-material irons that offer more forgiveness, solid feel and improved looks for the aspiring to skilled golfer. It feature two tungsten weights in the sole of the club that increases the MOI of the club without having to make the head longer. It is very easy to hit and pretty forgiving, even if the trajectory was a little higher than the similar sized CB 712 irons sale.
Key improvements to the new cheap Titleist AP1 712 Irons add forgiveness without sacrificing shot control – factors previously thought to be mutually exclusive. Titleist 712 AP1 Irons is more forgiving because of its more efficient, high MOI design while also featuring a more traditional appearance with a progressive blade length throughout the set.
At address the heads look a little more compact and the topline appears thinner, but it actually is the same size, but looks smaller thanks to some extra polishing and visual tweaking. The sweetspot is not as big as the titleist ap2 712 irons for sale as yoiu would expect but the offset is smaller and this is an iron ideally suited to the low handicap player.
The new AP1s still demanded an element of consistency in strike, especially in the longer irons but if I secured a set, I'd probably take Titleist general manager Steve Pelisek's advice and invest in complimentary hybrids to replace them.
