Samsung has launched the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, which opens up a new front in the market of wearable devices. Galaxy Gear has been published before Apple’s iWatch, which represents Samsung’s chance to break with the view that it’s simply a fast follower. Samsung wants to be seen as an innovator, not a follower, but it is unclear how many people will buy the first version of the smartwatch. As a world-famous smartphone manufacturer, Samsung wins and becomes the main force at some level in the market of wearable devices. Galaxy Gear looks like a simple smartphone which can be strapped on your wrist. It displays the applications shortcuts on the home screen, like time, camera, address book, etc. You can answer or make calls directly with Galaxy Gear after matching with Samsung mobile phone. Many technical companies think Gear looks to further increase, but also lots of experts think Gear is only the effective brand propaganda tool. There are not enough advantages like battery problem. Galaxy Gear has a camera with 1.9 million pixels, supports voice input, and synchronizes with the mobile phone messages and mails. But currently Galaxy Gear just supports to run Android 4.3 and the series products of Galaxy included Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 10.1. It means Gear don’t support the flagship phone Galaxy S4. In other words, if the consumers owned Samsung smartphones or tablet PCs don’t purchase Note 3 or the newest Note 10.1, they cannot use Galaxy Gear. However, Galaxy S4 is the hottest product of Samsung. The battery life is the largest problem to resolve for most smartphones, especially for Samsung. Samsung estimates that Galaxy Gear will last for roughly 24 hours on a single charge, but early first impressions suggest that real-world use will kill the device in half that time. For a device meant to be worn on the wrist all day, that’s almost a deal-breaker. But that problem isn’t exclusive to the device’s battery life. Generally, the Gear’s underlying tech isn’t small enough, powerful enough, or cheap enough for the device to be compelling in its current form. Many consumers think that Samsung wasn’t trying to usher in a new generation of smartwatches. It just wanted to launch its own device before Apple did - even if doing so meant releasing something that felt half-finished. Anyway, it is conforming that Galaxy Gear has 70 kinds of specific Apps for consumers, including the famous Path sharing photos, RunKeeper the workout tracker, etc. In fact, it seems that the launching of Galaxy Gear provides Apple with more large potential market. Apple iWatch may provide more rich features for consumers. I think we should know Samsung isn't the first company to release a smartwatch, and Gear isn't its first attempt in that market. In the meantime, Samsung will face a bevy of rivals already in the market. That includes Sony, Pebble, and Martian.
