Your fear and anxiety may be controlling your life. Anxiety is very real to sufferers. Some people even become home bound and do not desire to go out among people. They sometimes do not have any specific fears they are just afraid of losing control somehow. These could be symptoms of (GAD) Generalized Anxiety Disorder. If you are very worried and anxious about everyday things you may have GAD. A little anxiety is good for us it makes us it makes us more productive. But anxiety that shuts you off from the rest of the world is not normal. There is treatment for this disorder. The most common is cognitive behavioral health anxiety therapy. In cognitive therapy the irrational thoughts and negative thinking are replaced with happy positive thoughts. With GAD they perceive things as being more dangerous than they are. The second step is to challenge your negative thinking. Your therapist will help you identify irrational thought and negativism. You question your thoughts and beliefs and test there reality. GAD sufferers need to replace the negative feelings with positive ones. You can work on your distortions with your therapist. Challenge the negative thoughts with positive thoughts. Cognitive behavioral therapy usually includes some homework for your fear and anxiety. It takes a while to break down a lifetime of negative thoughts. Cognitive therapy includes getting in tune with your body, know what anxiety feels like. Learn coping skills and relaxation to avoid anxiety. Confront your fears. Find activities you enjoy to distract yourself from the feelings. GAD is a mental health diagnosis and should be treated by mental health practitioners and a psychiatrist.
