Copywriting for the web requires you to consider several important factors in order to create effective material for the online audience. The foremost one is speed. Forget about search engines for a minute and optimizing your content with keyword rich phrases and think about the online audience for awhile. The simple fact is that people want information fast and if they don't get it quickly they will simply click the back button and find it somewhere else. Think about this when you are developing your online material, whether it's an email campaign, sales page, report or any other type of copywriting for the web. Here are a few tips for constructing your writing in a manner that is optimized for the three second attention span of internet users. Keep your most important content above the fold or above the scroll line. This is the prime real estate of the online viewing experience and should be treated as such. Don't bury your main points at the bottom of your web copy. Create compelling headlines for your material that captivates and entices your readers to learn more about what you are saying. Break large blocks of text into smaller bite sized chunks. Use bullets and lists when they can be used to organize material effectively. Be concise in what you are presenting, get straight to the point. Let your online readers know immediately what is being presented why it's important and why they should consider you the expert on the topic. If your material requires further explanations or more in-depth examination create separate pages for it way from your main copy. Break it up and offer it as supplemental information. Don't forget the tried and true formula of who, what, where, when, and how much if you are discussing an event in your copy. It's surprising to see how often this information is overlooked. Avoid using fancy fonts or colored fonts on colored backgrounds when you create web page content, stick to the good old black type on white background, think about usability when you are developing your content. Make your content easy to read, easy to understand, easy to find and place your main points at the top of the page. Break large sections of information into smaller easily digestible ones and always remember the needs of your readers.
