By Sarita Rupan Photography: Courtesy the architects The FNCC Pub designed by HP Lakhani Associates is an effortless blend of two distinct characteristics – culture and glamour! Envisioned to entertain members of the very prestigious Film Nagar Cultural Centre Club, the 3600 sq. ft. plush entertainment hub etches out free-flowing spaces sans the hindrance of internal walls, to nurture the key notion of interaction and camaraderie. Blending in contextual motifs, like the modern version of the quintessential jaali work, which dominates the prevalent architecture of the city; and the shimmering contemporary chandelier, which avers to majestic bearings; with modern materials and finishes, and uber chic lighting features that influence the mood and ambience of the pub, Ar. Harish Lakhani draws upon the duality of the theme, fostering a larger-than-life aura. The pub, which is the refurbished version of an old bar, follows the curvilinear architectural form of the building it is housed in. Seating is divided into three bays: a central curvilinear seating with low wooden partitions that act like open walls and create intimate booths alongside a perpendicular seating arrangement; the bar sandwiched between a raised wooden platform and wooden ceiling with the subdued glow of its changing LED hues; and another circular seating set against a backdrop of black mirror paneling, amidst black mirror-clad columns. Use of reflective as well as solid materials for the walls and columns define movement yet creates stillness; the colour palette of a neutral backdrop predominated by black, umber and white offers the perfect foil for touches of red in the upholstery; and the mirror and jaali composition not only adds that elusive touch of sophistication but also enhances the area spatially. With its vantage location on Jubilee Hills, the outdoor deck made of recycled materials adds another dimension to the sleek interiors. The slender bamboo canopy, rattan furniture and soft lighting create the perfect al fresco ambience, with a spectacular view of the city. Despite the challenging budget, the architects accomplish a trendy entertaining hub - high on understated glamour. Click here to view images on inidaartndesign.com
