One of the ways you can improve your jump height, and an important thing to learn, is the actual jumping process itself. If you can master or at least get better at the jumping technique, you should be able to add a few inches of height right there. So it would be wise to learn how to do it. If you are jumping from a run there are generally three phases to the jump; the approach, change over and the takeoff. You want to be running as fast as possible as you go into your jump so there is a lot of built up momentum. This way you will be able to convert that momentum into vertical momentum. During the approach phase you will be running to the jump off point as fast as possible. When you reach the jump off point you do not want to stop and jump, Your momentum should transition you right into the change over right before the jump. During the change over phase you will be setting yourself up for the jump. As you get to the jump off you will be lowering your center of gravity about a ¼ of the way down preparing to jump. You want to make this lowering as quick as possible to lesson the loss of momentum. When you get into the take off phase you need to concentrate on driving off of your forward foot as hard as possible, almost like you trying to drive your feet through the floor. This is also where all that strength you have been working on can drive you upward as you launch into your takeoff. Practice these phases of the jump until it becomes second nature and you will not have to think about it when you are doing it for real. Practice each phase one at a time then combine them and practice them all together. When you get it together you will see a few inches improvement from the jump alone.
