The world economy continues its free falling but this does not affect some of the highest paying jobs in America that seem only to pay more over time. Bureau of Labor Statistics published its regular survey of wages based on more than 1 million of businesses. Despite what one may think financial field or "honest politicians" do not appear on the top of the list. The real reason is because they do not fully report their incomes. Nevertheless, nine of ten best paying jobs are in the medical field led by anesthesiologists who made on average 113 dollars per hour. This totals to a yearly salary of 230,000 dollars per year which will be partially spent to pay back medical school bills. Although the amount may seem high at a glance one should not forget that anesthesiologists often borrow in excess of a million dollars to pay for the medical school. At least 4 additional years are needed to complete intership and residency requirements. American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) argues that high pay reflects the responsibility and risk involved in the job. At the same time deaths attributed to anesthesia are only 1 to 200,000 compared to 1,500 just fifty years ago. One of the possible remedies to save on anesthesiologists is to hire anesthetists that do not spend that much time studying. Empirical research shows the probability of death is independent of whether anesthesiologists or anesthetists performed anesthesia. General surgeons are number two in the list and made on average 111 dollars per hour in 2011. General surgeon is another best career making on average that experienced a salary increase of 6000 bucks. In fact all five top positions are in the medical field. Anesthesiologists and General Surgeon are followed by Obstetricians and Gynecologists (218 thousand), Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (217 thousand) and Orthodontists (with as little as 204,670 dollars). Chief executive officers are number nine in terms of average earnings equal to 177 thousand. Of course, the average salary falls short of the top paid CEO John Hammergren who made 131 million in 2011. Great news for top professionals do not end here. The real wage gap between online stock broker and a Burger King employee is actually higher by one third if one considers fringe benefits such as insurance that is not typically offered in small establishments. Health insurance serves as an additional incentive for high productive workers. Given the cap on salary during the Second World War health insurance seemed to be a good alternative.
