How to Avoid a Weight Loss Plateau When Using an Online Food Journal

One of the biggest problems that people who are trying to lose weight encounter is what is often referred to as a "plateau" A plateau is when you have been losing weight but slowly stop losing as much for no apparent reason. With a mobile food tracker there are ways that you can avoid hitting a plateau. A lot of the time when people who are successfully losing weight suddenly stop losing even though they haven’t changed what they are doing, it causes a loss of motivation to continue.

There are a lot of tools in the online journal, including a diabetes tracker, but some of the best tools to help you avoid or get over a plateau are the body analysis and activity tracking tools. One of the reasons that plateaus occur when people are losing weight is actually due to the weight loss itself. Your basal metabolic rate, which is how many calories your body burns just by functioning normally, is tied to your weight. The BMR actually decreases as your weight decreases. Losing weight is contingent on creating a calorie deficit in your body, so if you aren’t burning as many calories, you could start losing weight at a slower pace.

If you are experiencing a plateau while losing weight with an online food diary, you can run a new body analysis to determine what your new BMR is. You may have to recalculate your calorie intake or increase your daily exercise to burn more calories than you were before. If you started your weight loss journey with a BMR of 1500, and you burn an extra 200 calories a day through exercise, a 1200 calorie diet is enough to help you lose 1 pound per week. However, if your BMR is now 1400, you will have to do an additional 100 calories of exercise to lose weight at the same rate as when you began.

The activity tracker in your calorie counter is a good way to keep tabs on how many calories you are burning in a given day or week. This way you can make sure that you are burning enough to lose weight. You can also run a body analysis on a regular basis, like every time you’ve lost 5 pounds, to make sure that you never hit a plateau in the first place. By using the tools in your journal, you can avoid a plateau altogether and continue to successfully lose weight.
