One career that doesn't go out of fashion is teaching. It is both a rewarding and self-fulfilling career. I would know, my mom supported us with her teaching career. A few years ago my mom retired and due to the years of service she received her pension which is enough to make her comfortable in the years to come. But the pension is just one of the good things about teaching according to my mom. The other is the fulfilment knowing that she was able to impart knowledge and wisdom to thousands of students during her years of service. My mom didn't come from a wealthy family. She came from a family of farmers and her mom died at a young age. Her dad, my grandpa was a veteran of the Korean war and when the war ended, returned to farming. My mom had 5 siblings and their eldest, being the first one to graduate from college as a teacher took her to the city and took care of her college education. Right after graduation, my mom married my dad, a policeman back then and they started building our family. A few years after marrying my dad, my mom started teaching. It wasn't common for us not to see our mother the entire day. She was at school most of the day. In fact even during strong rains as long as classes weren't suspended we would expect my mom to go to school. She always tells us smiling that she also had a responsibility to the students waiting for her at school. Though she was dedicated with her teaching job, she never forgot to take care of us. She's always there when we need her, providing the things we need and making sure that we learned our lessons when we need to. I guess she carried the real life education that she imparts with her students outside the classroom and into our lives as well. She was really good both as a person and as a teacher. One proof of this is the fact that she would bring a lot of flowers and letters at home during teacher's day. She would be all smiles when she reach home carrying all of the flowers. She would then read the letters one by one and smile. I guess one of the best feelings she got was every time she would know that students are thankful for the help and care she's given them. As I'm writing this, I'm smiling because I can clearly recall how happy it was for my mom to teach. It completed her. It wasn't smooth sailing every time, that isn't how life is. Sure we also had monetary problems but as far as I can recall, my mom was always able to take us out of crisis and after a big one, my mom would just go back to school and teach. Then life goes on. I guess I can share the biggest lesson I learned from my mom and her teaching career. It's consistency. A few years before she retired, she asked me to help her fix her classroom to prepare for the upcoming classes. So I came with her to fix the curtains and hang some classroom display. While hanging the curtains, I realized one of the biggest lessons in my life through my mom. She was consistent. Whatever happened, whether personal crisis, natural crisis, storms, disasters, after the problem, my mom would come to school and teach. She would return and take care of her other kids and share her life with her and with that consistency she was able to send all of us to college. My mom is retired now but from time to time her old students will drop by our house and check up on my mom. During these times I can see the familiar smile I saw in my mom's face every time she would read her student's letters before. She's living comfortably now and she's happy. I assume a huge factor in that is because she knows that she made a difference as a teacher. To find the nearest school in your area visit : http://teachingcertificationusa.com/
