Every Company Needs a Strategic Reward System to Boost Employee Morale

You think you keep your employees happy by paying them salary on time, may be chip in a bonus here and there right? Wrong, how would you like it if your employees stuck to their stipulated time and did not work extra even when needed or did not think of any new ideas to may be boost your production or sales, would you be a happy proprietor or partner or would your company progress the way it has, obviously not. An employee needs much more than just the salary and the bonus, they need recognition for their achievement, and they need appreciation for the hard work they put in. And how do you do it, through the employee recognition plaques and trophies.

Every company must have a strategic reward system that addresses the employees in four main areas - compensation, extra benefits, recognition & appreciation. Many organizations do have a reward system in place; however they have a twofold problem. First they are missing some of the above elements (mostly recognition / appreciation) and the elements they do address do not align properly with the corporate strategies of the company. The winning system recognizes two kinds of employee activities – performance and behaviour. Employees who excel in these fields can be aptly rewarded with employee recognition plaques and trophies.

Performance can be recognized easily and rewarded as it is linked directly with the goals set for the employees and final result they achieve. A good example of this is the incentive plan most companies have for their sales reps or production personnel for achieving periodic goals. However recognizing specific behaviours which make an overall difference to the company and rewarding them is definitely more challenging. The two questions that you need to ask to recognize and reward behaviour are

- What is it that I should compensate my employees for? - What behaviours should I reward?

Some factors to consider may be:

- Time – punctuality and desire to work late if needed to get things done - Thinking out of the box – thinking new ideas on completing work effectively and efficiently - Problem solving attitude – do employees find innovative ways to tackle day-to-day problems or do they need some prodding to stop cribbing and start working

You can think of various other behaviours that affect your company’s overall performance like team building, coordinating and leadership qualities.

Although rarely thought about recognition and appreciation are two strong pillars of the winning reward system. Employee recognition plaques and trophies are low-cost high return investment that no organization should ignore.
