Just recently I had the opportunity to meet a lovely soul named Holly. Holly has had an amazing journey into natural health and healing and I think it’ll resonate with many of you. So without further ado, I’ll allow her to take you through her personal experience. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Look, Feel & Be Your Best. Having been inherently on a quest for optimum health for as long as I can remember, I have always been passionate about drinking water, nutrition, moving my body & following my dreams. From a very young age I didn’t tolerate certain foods well. When you are young you don’t realise what is happening. You are eating what your mum lovingly prepared for you & you don’t have the education or means to start working out what foods suit your bio-individuality. My body however was telling me something. I felt bloated & full yet was always craving more food. I felt sluggish and found myself in a cycle of over-eating which led to poor body image throughout my teens. I started playing around with ‘diets’ at the age of 15. It was here that I started to learn about smaller portions, eating vegetables as snacks and feeling better once you drop a few kilos that your frame doesn’t require. As with all ‘diets’ once you are off them you quickly pile back on the weight and continue with processed food habits feeling less than ordinary all the whilst accepting this as feeling normal. The years rolled by much the same. I never felt truly happy like this. Sure there were many moments of joy but I wasn’t energised or clear. There was a continual fog hanging over me. I knew I wasn’t supposed to feel that way so I continued to read, research and try every diet, detox and fad under the sun. It was through this process that I started to see something clearly emerge and that is that nature’s foods are the foods your body understands, digests & assimilates properly. They nourish you & build great foundations for good health bringing down inflammation walking you through to the alkaline corridor. An acidic body as we all know is the breading ground for all dis-ease. Discovering Deepak Chopra led to my keen interest in Ayurveda & holistic ways of looking after myself and my body. I discovered yoga & meditation and took myself on many retreats here and abroad to explore further. I started to have a deeper connection with myself & my own self-care. I fell in love with spirituality and found myself aligning with certain practises & philosophies. Many beautiful coaches and holistic practitioners came into my life. Going through a huge shift I started to realise that life is a very deep experience and there is a mind, body & soul connection so intricately linked and balanced. It will be your best friend or could be your dis-ease depending on how you treat yourself. I started to explore this concept further and became quite interested in ‘cleansing’; detoxing if you will. I have done every cleanse under the sun, juice fasts (never lasting one!), raw food cleanses (always leaving me in discomfort), naturopathic cleanses, colon cleanses (never again!!), natural supplement aided cleanses, liver cleanses (all of these very dangerous), and to India to stay with an Ayurvedic Doctor for 2 weeks of Panchakarma coupled with daily yoga with a yogi and Reiki & shiatsu with a Reiki master. Phenomenal! Panchakarma is a cleansing and rejuvenating program for the body, mind and consciousness. It is known for its beneficial effects on overall health, wellness & self healing. Whilst in India I was really hoping to settle some digestive issues and stomach discomfort that seemed to be getting worse. Although I experienced many health benefits this was still not addressed. I had tried everything and could not find the answer anywhere. Back home in Australia I was increasingly under duress working in an office environment that was very demanding and did not resonate with me as a human being. Everything was out of alignment. It was then, a little over 3 years ago, that one of my dearest friends introduced me to a mineral-rich nutritional cleansing program that impacted my health in so many positive ways. I knew I was onto something. Flooding my body with essential minerals was key. Feeding myself with dense organic nutrients whilst gently flushing toxicity with the presence of herbs, botanicals and adaptogens; a light switched on again. I regained my energy, clarity, health & handed in my resignation. I started helping others which retired me from corporate life and opened many doors for me in the health & wellness arena. Funny how things start to fall into place when you are well & vibrating at your highest potential. I am not a vegetarian however seldom do I eat meat & feel much better when I don’t. I believe less red meat in a diet leads to many health benefits & believe in sourcing organic free-range meats for a plethora of reasons. I also eat organic foods as they are mineral-rich, delicious, satiating & far more nutritious than non-organic foods. Our top soil has been ravaged by herbicides and pesticides depleting it of essential minerals and our produce is genetically modified. Minerals are the building blocks of optimum health. Without their presence our body is deficient and lacking in the support for it’s day to day needs, growth & function. I am very passionate about this. As Thomas Cho from alkalife Natural Alkaline Water has said, “Something cannot be alkaline without the presence of minerals”. A clue. I stopped drinking tap water three years ago. I follow many incredible women & wellness warriors & started to deeply identify with how they living their lives. Seeing photos of them smiling, on the beach, eating nature’s foods, glowing with good health, helping others achieve the same things, it dawned on me that I could do this too. A lot of these women studied at the Integrative Institute of Nutrition where a team of highly educated doctors, nutritionists, dieticians are advocates of holistic living and healing the body with nature’s foods. I signed up. IIN teaches you to look at bio-individuality and to understand what works for you and what doesn’t. It teaches you to tune in, look at self-care, primary foods & secondary foods. The concept is that in order to function well & to digest & assimilate secondary foods (nutrition) that your primary foods have to be in order. Your primary foods are, career (be in one you love & if you don’t love it find ways to love it, be at ease with it & grateful for it), healthy relationships (love, friends, family), spirituality (whatever nourishes you & provides you with self-care be it yoga, meditation, long warm baths, walks, facials, reading, etc.) and daily physical activity. I have been successfully coaching clients now for 3 years & am really enjoying furthering myself as a health & life coach to provide people seeking a healthy body, a happy mind & their true potential with a pathway to achieve just that. It is my vision for everyone to have access to this lifestyle. Joy. Hollyistics Holly is a singer / songwriter with a passion for nutrition & the human condition.
