Benefits of Using Cork Glue Down Tiles

Home Improvement
If you suffer from knee pain or pain in any joint, you know that walking can become very difficult. More so if the surface is resistant, such as a hardwood floor or a stone floor. Every time you set your foot down on such a floor, it only adds to the pain and it keeps getting worse. For anybody who suffers from joint pain, the ideal solution would be to walk on a softer surface that acts as a kind of cushion and absorbs the shock of every step. One such surface is comprised of cork glue down tile. This type of flooring is not too soft and neither is it too hard. It is firm yet soft enough to absorb footsteps so you do not feel the pain. This material also has been found to be ideal for use in gyms and also in clinics that practice physical therapy.

What is so great about cork flooring? What makes it perfect for so many different purposes? The comfort factor and the versatility of cork flooring are found in the essential construction of cork. Cork is basically the bark off the cork oak tree, which is stripped and subjected to advanced procedures to make cork flooring.

These days, there are several more innovative processes that are done to help to greatly enhance the comfort factor. Here is the basic process of manufacturing cork glue down tile. First the cork is carefully peeled off the tree in sheets. These sheets of cork are pulverized into smaller pieces. The small bits of cork are now blended with non-toxic adhesive and when all the bits are coated with the glue, they are then pressed together under high pressure. This causes all the little bits to become tightly stuck to one another, producing cork tile.

What’s really great about cork tile is that it is nearly impossible to produce two tiles that look exactly identical. Because cork nodules are just randomly placed, when pressed together, they form a variety of colors and designs, which adds to their versatility.

However, in addition to its looks, there are a few other interesting qualities of cork that makes it so popular as a flooring material. Cork glue down tile has a lot of air trapped in the spaces between the cells. This trapped air does two things. The first thing that it does it gives the cork a cushiony feel by compressing and releasing the air every time you step on it. This ‘give’ helps to cushion the impact when you are walking on the surface, unlike hard floors, which do not have any ‘give’ and hence do not cushion the impact.

This air in the spaces between the cells also helps to give cork flooring its properties of insulation so in the winter the floor does not get too cold and in the summer it does not get too warm. This means you do not need to raise or lower your thermostat too much, which can go a long way in reducing your power bills.

Besides looking good, Cork Flooring also helps in reducing joint and knee pain in addition to reducing your electricity bills. To know more about Cork glue down tile , go to iCork Floor.
