Many individuals complain about receiving spam in their e-mail accounts, but there are also a high number of consumers who subscribe to mailing lists to receive information about goods and services. Numerous consumers seek to find out more about the products in which they are interested.

Online entrepreneurs are always searching for such customers, and the latter are essentially won through trust. If your customers believe that you are honest and reputable, they will often reward you by returning in the future to make a purchase.

Getting Customers to Opt-In

It is important for you to understand that those who shop online often go to great lengths to protect their e-mail addresses and avoid receiving spam. Many e-mail providers even screen spam on behalf of their customers. If you build an opt-in email list, the material you send, whether catalogs, newsletters or promotional offers, will reach your intended recipient. However, to gain this permission from prospective customers, you must prove that you are a trustworthy merchant.

If you have a legitimate business, this should not be a difficult task. The first thing you should do is establish yourself as an expert in your chosen field. You have likely selected a product or service about which you have a good foundation of knowledge. Demonstrate to your customers that you can offer helpful suggestions and meaningful information to them on a regular basis. In this way, you are establishing yourself as an authority figure in that particular field.

Customer Service

Whenever possible, offer a guarantee with your products. In addition, be consistent with the type of customer service you provide. Customers do not enjoy doing business with someone who will not communicate with them after they have made a purchase. Let your clients know that you are there to offer help before, during and after the sale.

Maintaining a Clean List

You should also offer an unsubscribe option. This demonstrates to your clients that you are not attempting to trap them into receiving endless advertisements in which they are no longer interested. Maintain a clean list that enables subscribers to opt out whenever they wish. No one wants to think that their relationship with a particular merchant is a one-way street with no way to undo it if they desire.

Maintaining Trust

It is also essential that you understand that maintaining trust is just as important as earning it in the first place. For example, do not become tempted to sell the e-mail addresses of your subscribers to another merchant, as this is a fast way to lose trust and respect with those on the list you have worked so hard to build. Following the steps outlined above will ensure that you enjoy success with all your list building endeavors.
