Ladder Safety Tips - Do It Yourself

The work with ladder starts at home and these are not only used for home work but also for several other projects like for construction projects, roofing projects etc. These are also used for home renovation and painting work. Since these are used for working at heights, hence it is necessary to use with extensive care as well as some precaution should be taken to prevent any accidents like falling or any other serious accidents. Even a Step Ladder can be dangerous if common sense is not used. There are 160,000 reported injuries each year from ladders; many of these would be due to lack of precautions and safety. Workplace accidents not only result in the injury of the workers but also affect their overall performance on the job. Hence the workers should be given ladder training to use it with safety. There are several steps which you have to follow in order to ensure proper use for a ladder no matter where you are or what task you are doing. These ladder safety steps are as follows:

1. Once you have decided that you need to use a ladder to complete your project, make sure that you have the right type of ladder. There are several types of ladders are available in the market, you can choose from them according to the nature of your project work.

2. Examine the area around where you have to place the ladder. Check for any obstructions that may impede your ladder set-up or the work that you are doing while on the ladder.

3. Maintain a clean work area. Not only will you remove many hazards from a work area by keeping it clean, but you will also provide a more productive work environment for your employees.

4. As a part of ladder safety tips, you should provide its workers with all the necessary safety equipment. The workers should have all the necessary safety gear, tools, workforce apparels and a written manual in case some emergency arises unexpectedly.

5. The next thing you need to check before using a ladder is that it's leaning against something that is stable.

6. If using a straight or extension ladder, make sure that the top of the ladder is resting against a straight and solid surface.

7. Remove tools on the top of the ladder, especially screwdrivers, chisels, hammers, knives even paint. It is so easy to forget there are items on the top of ladder, if the ladder is moved, something hard, sharp or wet could be coming down on top of you or your surroundings very soon.

These safety tips will help to remain safe during work. If you have any questions about your ladder or safety concerns about your project, make sure to consult an expert.

Ladder Safety is necessary for all workers who are associated with roofing works at heights. You can check seriously all fall arrest system and fall protection system to ensure safety of workers.
