Looking back through my college years, I thought about all the professors I had. |
All the ones the students liked, and the ones they didn’t like so much.
After thinking for a good couple of minutes, I noticed a pattern. There’s one common thing that all the ‘liked’ professors have.
They all talk to their students about things beyond academics, mostly about themselves.
Not too much though. I heard stories of professors venting about their personal relationship issues to their students. I’m sure nobody needs to listen to that.
But the point is, those professors showed their “human” side. They shared personal stories that made them more likeable.
Not only that.
They also share their personal stories and relate them to whatever they’re teaching, which also makes the classes more fun.
This is something I see other successful marketers do too when they write their emails.
There is one copywriter who I follow, and most of his emails talk about things that are very personal to him.
He talks about things like his relationship with his parents, his insecurities, his failures, etc.
They may not be about copywriting and marketing tips that he states on his email newsletter signup box, but they’re still valuable reads, you get to know him better, and he gets a lot of engagement.
I talk more about writing engaging sales emails in my book, How to Become an Email Titan. You can get your copy of the sample chapters using the link down here.
