Company: Rick London Cartoons (LTCartoons.com)

Region: World

Website: www.LTCartoons.com

Memorable Quote 1: Anything Mark Twain

Memorable Quote 2: Anything Oscar Wilde

Author Comment / Biography:
Londons Times Offbeat Cartoons & Gifts (LTCartoons.com) was founded by Rick London in an abandoned Mississippi tin warehouse on March 19, 1997 where he lived and worked on the project for over a year. His tools were an IBM Clone 386 used (nearly dead) PC, a rescue dog named “Thor”, about $300, a book titled “Internet For Dummies”, a sleeping bag, and the clothes on his back…oh and that his mom told him at a young age “You are so talented…”. His aristic skills were limited so after speaking to numerous mentors including Charles Schulz, Leigh Rubin, Jon McPherson, Dave Coverly, and Leigh Rubin, London learned that many cartoons we see in the paper are group efforts as well as other aspects of the business.

The first five or so years, London kept the project alive through bartering and publishing deals with academia and trade magazines just to keep the lights on in the warehouse. The owner of it provided a phone line so he had dial-up Internet. He got a free domain with more pop-up ads than cartoons for the first year.

Starting up such a venture on the Internet with almost nothing was quite the challenge. There was no Google, no Twitter, no social anything. Their was only email, Yahoo!, and forums. London learned to barter and traded humorous writings and cartoons for goods and services.

By January 2005, Londons Times had become Google's #1 ranked offbeat cartoon and Bing’s #1 ranked in May 2008. As of this writing November 17, 2012, it remains #1 ranked on both search engines.

London licenses his gifts & tees through Amazon, Sears online, Zazzle, Printfection, CafePress, and other outlets under the names Londons Times Cartoons, Londons Times Gen 2 Cartoons, Rick London Wisdom Gifts, & Rick London Love Quote Gifts (all under the umbrella of Rick London Designs).

I love being humbled, and this happens to me every now and again when reviewing music. I was assigned to review what was described as a hot seasoned group of professionals known as “Dog Society”.

2. Musician Of The Day: Anthony Alongi/Tranzducer: Super Creative & Melodic

3. Lael Summer, A Singer/Musician Not To Be Missed
October 28, 2013

When someone shows me something/or someone new, especially in the arts, the first thing that goes through my mind is a line is a classic Clapton tune, “Don’t show me anything new….I’ve seen it all before”. And admittedly, I spend a good amount of time in that jaded spot; but at least I know it. In...

6. Sienna - Musician Of The Week by Rick London
October 03, 2013

When I listened to the title track “Japonesque” of Japanese artist Sienna (living in Norway), I felt, “I know this musician, or at least I’ve heard her mesmerizing work. But I couldn’t place her so I kept listening to a genre of work that could not be pigeonholed or labeled.

No doubt ...

7. Musician Of The Week: Derek Delacroix
October 02, 2013

As an older baby boomer, I just made it to the tail end of good what I call electronica as an umbrella “catch-all” of any songs that can be made using devices such as Thermin, a sound synthesizer and even a computer. A new musician (at least new to me), Derek Delacroix has taught me those were just ...

8. Why Did Scientific American Take Such An Unscientific Swipe At Kratom
October 01, 2013

I have read, loved, and respected Scientific American Magazine for many years. They generally go beyond the research that the normal trained researcher might do. Today, things changed. September 23, 2013

I’ve been a follower and student of medicinal plants long before I was a hippie fighting for the legalization of marijuana in my teens. I was young “in search of self” and my reasons for legalizing pot were, admittedly far from altruistic.

Since watching my dear Mother die of Leukemia (a...
